Introduction

Dr. Onwude is a Lecturer and academic researcher. He obtained a Bachelor of Engineering, in Agricultural Engineering, from University of Uyo. His Masters and Doctor of Philosophy are in Bioprocess Engineering, obtained from Universiti Putra Malaysia. His research focus lies within modeling and simulation of postharvest process systems, imaging technology as a non destructive quality determination approach and drying technology. He has skills and experience in programming, software development and artificial intelligence, relevant for advancing process systems (Agricultural, Food and Chemical Engineering processes) and post-harvest storage technology. His postgraduate research focused on experiments and simulation of drying of agricultural crops. He was able to apply different drying strategies to produce fruits and vegetables with enhanced quality.

Dr. Onwude is a remarkable talent, ambitious and always seeking to expand his knowledge. He has always taken his role seriously and is passionate about doing research. Between the year 2016 and 2020, he was able to publish 34 journal papers (of which 20 as first author) on drying, modelling and simulation of agricultural crops. Specifically, 13 of the papers are  published in high impact Q1 journals, while 5 of the papers are also published in Q2 high impact journals. He also has 3 book chapters and 5 intellectual properties all within 3 years. Dr. Onwude has won numerous awards relating to his research including, Swiss National Science Foundation (SNF) Grant (2019), bronze medals (3 minutes thesis competition, SMART dryer Invention, Research and Innovation Exhibition (PRPI) in 2016, Graduate on Time), and a graduate research fellowship from 2016-2018. Beyond his passion for driving performance, Dr. Onwude is intelligent, with leadership qualities and always willing to help his research colleagues. He’s at his best in a group environment, and his consciously proactive at getting the full involvement of all other team members to derive the best results possible. Given his experience and skills in the drying of agricultural crops, he would like to further explore more emerging drying technologies in the future, that can drastically improve the product quality and reduce the (energy) cost of the drying process.
